You do not have to do it, but the doctor's prefer you do it so they know for sure. This is because there is a special way to deliver babies to mom's who have HIV that will reduce the chance that it will be given to the baby. It's called a "bloodless birth" and it's done by C-section.

There should be no reason strong enough for you to opt out of taking this test. The physician will definately need to know about EVERYTHING pertaining to the baby's health. The HIV test is usually administered after you sign a consent form and is included with many other tests.

You need to have the HIV test done to protect your baby. If the thest is positive, there are drugs available to help protect the baby from contracting it from you during pregnancy or delivery. If you think you have HIV, and are afraid of finding out, then all the more reason to take the test. But yes, you can opt out of it (though I have no idea why you'd want to).

Mine wasn't optional, but I was in the military at the time. It's best just to take it though. If you're scared of needles or something, you'll definately get over that soon being pregnant...you get poked and prodded all the time. But there's a swab test you can take for the HIV test. They just rub a Q-tip in your mouth and that's it.

The test is optional...you can choose to opt out from it. But on another note, you may want to do it for the sake of yourself and your unborn child, ya kno...its simply a blood test and if ya dont like needles ya may wanna get over that cause you have MANY more tests to come over time, sooooo just do it to be on the safe side!

Why would you want to opt out of taking this. There is a way that if you were to have HIV that your baby may not. But they have to know ahead of time. I'm not trying to sound mean but, Don't just think about yourself

If it is a free test why not find out for sure? One way or the other it`s always good to know the truth.
