The Lionboy series is really good. It's by Zizou Corder and it's about this boy who can talk to lions and cats.
And also Inkheart by Cornelia Funke. This girl's dad can read things out of books when he reads them aloud and he reads the villians out of a book. That book's one of my favorites you should really read it.
