I love some of the answers you got.

To answer your question - there are many Russian-Jews. Judaism was, and is, a strong religion in Russian and Ukraine, and has been for a long time. We westerners often hear of the great atrocities committed by Hitler in Western Europe, but we seldom hear of the 20 million Russian-Jews that were slaughtered in Ukraine, when Germany invaded that country and marched towards Moscow.

It is correct that a majority of Russians are Christian Orthodox, but Judaism is a very close second. It is a rich part of Russian culture, and you should be proud.

You are a Russian-Jew because someone in your ancestry shared this rich religious background and way of life in Russia.

Hey, you are a Jew because your mother is a Jew and all the mothers were Jews going back to when the world was created. You are a direct descendant of Eve- now isn't that amazing. You have some ancestry. There are many Russians Jews who unfortunately don't know they are Jewish because they have been persecuted for many years and weren't allowed to learn and act Jewish openly.

Congratulations. Your a Jew because your mother is a Jew. Most other Russians are Russian Orthodox, Atheist, and other random christian religions. As to your final question. There are surely lots and bunches. Sometimes the hyphenate refers to Jews who don't know much about being Jewish because of the religious education prohibitions of Communism which encouraged them to assimilate.

Judaism is a religion. Why you are Jewish is up to you to answer.

Why don't you ask God? He seems to have all your other answers. In fact why bother with Yahoo answers at all? Why not just ask God everything? Or do you find it goes a little quiet when you do.
