One problem you will face is that the south, unlike the north, does not have this wealth of public transportation. If you don't drive, you won't be able to get around from where you live to where you work.

Especially in either Atlantic or Orlando which are both sprawling cities. But I lived in Orlando so I'll tell you what I know.

Orlando is of course warm and doesn't see snow, meeting that criteria. However, it's very very touristy. So areas to live at are really very unique. Two gas stations will be less than a mile from each other yet cost close to 40 cents difference. Same with apartments. Same apartment on a lesser known street will run more than 150 a month less. Everything is based on tourist industry--Disney, Seaworld and Universal. Luckily it's not like the beach in the Carolinas--all shut down in winter--Orlando is a year round tourist destination. Best places to work are at the hotels. You can always find an apartment within a mile of that hotel.

Weather difference between Atlanta and Orlando--about the same. Neither has an ocean breeze so both are really hot and humid in summer. Unbearably so at times. Orlando has a lot of hot days in January and February too though. Atlanta at least gets somewhat of 4 seasons so it's at least a little bit cold in winter.

Style of life is vastly different. As I mentioned, Orlando is all tourist--very much like a beach town. very casual. Atlanta is much more like a lil NY--lots of restaurants, clubs, new and trendy things.

Hope this helps.

Atlanta I've lived in Orlando for a few years, and I've lived in Atlanta the last 5 or so. The weather is slightly cooler, slightly less humid and we do have the smog alert thing. Traffic is bad, and we're not near any real ocean beaches. That said, this is the freakin' hub of the South. Outside of New York City, unless you've got a love for living in the mountains in a small town type of thing going on, Atlanta is the only true place to reside. I've lived in 38 states and keep finding myself back here far away from family because there's so much to do and we're in a nice location. And as far as natural disasters go, we only get a few tornados far north of the city and we're kinda near an 'inactive' fault-line, but we're otherwise high and dry. Unlike Orlando and the rest of that little bit of earth that's doomed to Hurricane traffic and sinking into the ocean one day, we're situated on top of a mountain sitting high and dry.

I'd personally choose a suburb of Atlanta. You have no hurricanes to deal with. Florida is too over populated. Theres many jobs in Georgia and Im sure the same goes for Florida. The weather is a bit better in Georgia. As I said, no hurricanes to deal with. Very few tornadoes, no earthquakes. I think its the best state to live in.
