I think that students in K-2 should be forced to take all clases like music art and gym but I think after that the kids should decide if they want to do those classes.

I do not believe a 3rd grader should be deciding what classes they should be taking, so no, I do not agree. Elective classes begin in middle school (6th grade) when the child is of age to understand the importance of education, culture and their own interests.

The point of education is to introduce you to things you do not know. How in the world can you make a decision about something you don't know? People who decide they don't like a food without tasting it are children - and children sometimes need to be forced to experience things. Sometimes the things are so they can function in a civilized world - sometimes they are experiences they should have precisely so they can decide if they like them.

Should I be forced to take a class in clay modeling? Absolutely, if I have never had that experience. At the end of it, I can decide if it is something I would like to pursue.

I think there should be some compulsory courses into and through university, although as students gain in experience they should also have an increasing say in what they focus in. But K-2? They have no experience and need to be shown the many different choices and experiences there are.

If you never tried anything new, you'd still be drinking your lunch out of a baby's bottle.

After year 8 some subjects like Technical studies and Home Economics should be dropped as a compulsory subject. If kids want to do one or the other then that that is the way it should be.There are some kids who can cope with Tech Studies and others who are not cut out to do woodwork etc.I was one of those who struggled with Tech Studies.Thats why I believe it should be choice.

Many towns and cities at this point are doing away with art, gym, music, etc which is a shame. I believe all kids should have these classes, but not only in early education but in older grades as well. Especially gym in older classes. Physical activity is crucial and not enough kids get it.

I don't really like that idea. I think second grade is too young to make those decisions and the children should be exposed to all different activities. I think it would be better to allow children to pick and choose when they get to middle or high school. Especially with the obesity problem now and days it is essential to have programs like gym included in the curriculum.

I believe that 3rd graders are too young to say what classes they want. Electives should start when they currently start, which is between 6th and 9th grade, depending on the district. Classes like gym are also very important and 3rd graders should not be able to choose not to take it because young people don't get enough exercise as it is, imagine what would happen without it!

no, i think that the age they have right now, middle school - high school is more of a right time. because even now we have to choose courses that we're planning to continue for life. but if in the end its not what you want to you, its 6-4 years needed to redo, if you start at grade 3, then its harder. and plus a lot of the further educatation is based on simpler grounds. eg. music has bases in math, and so does science. also for gym, i think that it should kept thoughrout all of high school, and not just grade nine because keeping healthy is a good thing.

That's nice. I think you should get as much education as you can while you can, and be thankful that it's being made available to you at all, forced or not.
