Tape will definitely give you more support and you can wrap gauze around the injured body part to keep the tape from hurting when you remove it. Perhaps a better alternative is a reusable product out there that is part tape and part ace bandage..here's some info:

Self-Adhering Sports Wrap
Unique, self-adherent tape provides firm support and compression, allows full mobility and needs to pins or clips. Adheres only to itself, not to skin or hair. Tears easily to desired length and is reusable. 99% cotton fabric for comfort. Unique thread weave allows for easy unwind and application plus memory for elasticity. Will not slip or loosen even under water. When used as a compression bandage, helps stop bleeding, helps reduce edema and maintain circulation.

I used this product while playing soccer and it works really well. Good luck.

Depends on your preference. Tape does a better job of immobilizing your wrist, but it may be painful to remove it. An "Ace" bandage does pretty good, comes off easily, and doesn't leave a sticky mess behind.

tape allows less movement, more support- better if you're going to play on it or something
