Absolutely not. It is an outdated practice that is not done in most of the rest of the world. It was started to keep men from masturbating! And the "medical benefits" are so small that teaching good hygeine and safe sex practices renders the "medical benefits" of circumcision insignificant. The AAP does not recommend circumcision as a routine procedure. It's basically a cosmetic procedure. Would you do it to your daughter? If not, why do it to your son?

I am not a Jew. It is not that painful! If it is done in the conventional way. May be like an injection. In the conventional way the foreskin is stretched to the max by a thread and the cutting is done with a sharp sterilized sharp knife. Over in seconds. In either method the pain is a day or two later as you can read in Gen 34. My brother who was circumcized by doctors has a tough even 30 years later. The edges are not cut smoothly and it keeps an itching sort of feeling. (People who have undergone surgeries will have the same sensation if the seams are protruding) In any case, while going for a circucision, make sure that it is done by experienced hands.

Only if it is medically necessary. There is absolutely no truth that being circumcised will prevent STD. Correct care of the foreskin/penis will ensure that the are no infections. males are born with foreskins for a purpose. It protects the head of the penis for a reason. My niece had her son circ'd. She is so sorry she did it. My grandson is not circ'd but may have to be if his foreskin cannot be retracted. This is all to do with religion and money, family traditions and old wives tales. It is done in the US but not in Europe as much. My father and 2 brothers and their 3 sons have not been done and I have never heard of any of them complaining about infections, not that it is a topic for discussion at the dinner table.

My opinion is Yes. A lot of people are against it because of the pain it causes the baby, but the baby is so young it will never remember the event. I think that by not circumcising you will cause your boy more pain when he gets older. Think about, you're a little boy whose thing doesn't look like everyone elses, he could be made fun of and more. Also if you don't take really good care of the skin, it could cause tons of problems, bad smells, infections, etc. Also, check out your insurance company, so insurances are now not covering circumcisions because they say that it's an elective, even though most Dr.'s will advise to have it done. If I would've had a boy, I would've had him circumcised.

This practice is very uncommon in Australia - there is no need for it to be done. My son will not be done. I am 35 weeks pregnant.

Yes.
Circumcision reduces the risk of infection. It lowers a man's chance of getting and transmitting STDs, and it practically eliminates his chance of getting cancer of the penis.
