My female guinea pig is around 1-2 years old. I noticed when I was petting her that she had a huge ball-like thing inside her neck area. Is this normal or should I take her to the vet? Please help me! Thanks!

Lumps are not good- did it just start growing? Can she still breathe?
You should take her to the vet. Hard lumps- It could be something serious like cancer, or maybe her thyroids are acting up from too much salt in her diet.
Soft lumps- cysts, fatty tumors, not really harmful but can be painful or cause damage if not drained/removed.
Who knows. It would be best to bring her in for some bloodwork or a biopsy.

I dont think it is a cancer, but i had a guinea pig before who had a similar issue and i took it to the vet. the vet performed a minor surgical procedure and gave me a gel like solution to put it on the place and after a week my guniea pig was good and healthy she lived for four more years later. The vet treatment didnt cost alot about 30 to 40 dollars.

I really recomand that you take it to the vet

Sounds like your guinea pig has what is called Cervical Lymphadenitis... Abscessation of the lymph nodes immediately beneath the lower jaw, in the upper neck, usually results when coarse foods (such as hay) injure the lining of the mouth or when superficial wounds penetrate the skin over these lymph nodes. It is a infection and should be treated by a vet as soon as possible. It is serious and should be seen by a vet.

Its probably mites... My guinea pigs had the same problem (itchiness, hair loss, etc) and I took her to the vet.. they said it was a bacterial infection and gave me some meds.. about a week later I took her back and they successfully diagnosed her with mites.. If she does have mites they give them a shot of ivermectin about 7+ days apart..They generally do 2 injections, but it can take more it depends on the severity. For my girls it took 2 injections and they were fine.. Also if you have any other guinea pigs caged with her, they will need the treatment for mites too (if it turns out to be mites.) good luck!

Definitely take her to the vet. It could be a cancerous growth. If it is growing, or has gotten bigger over the past few weeks/months, then that is a very bad sign. Take her to the vet and have it checked out. I hope that everything is okay.
