it all depends on where you want to get pierced. if your looking to just get your lobes pierced then I'd stick with a Claire's or piercing pagoda (don't get talked into buying an ear care kit, they don't work. anything more than $20 for just the hole in your ear is a rip off, the jewelry you choose can get pricey). if you want a cartilage piercing, you would want to go with a hollow needle. and use salt water instead of alcohol (it drys out skin and wont allow it to heal). this will be more pain than a lobe piercing and you will probably have trouble sleeping on that side of your head for a while.
if you want to do it yourself you can buy the piercing gun at Spencer's gifts. my sister did all but two of my eight holes. i didn't think it was painful it was more of a surprise than anything. just keep it clean and don't where cheap jewelry it leads to infection.

I just got my ears pierced, again, yesterday. I have 2 holes in each ear, but the second piercings were not placed where I wanted it years ago. I also have to say I've had a total of 7 ear piercings, but have let them all close up except the four I mentioned. All of those piercings hurt, but of course, not bad enough that I wouldn't get pierced again. All of those piercings were real sore and it was about 3-4 days before I was truly comfortable. This was 5-6 years ago.
But yesterday, I went to the mall to a place called the Piercing Palace yesterday. The young lady had me mark my ears where I wanted them pierced. She used a gun and HONESTLY, I didn't feel a thing. It must a new gun device because I didn't even wince, or jump or anything. It was really unreal how I could get a piercing and not even feel it. PLUS, no soreness, redness, pain; nothing! If there's a Piercing Palace where you live, try it. If you can afford it, only use a 14K or sterling silver earring to lessen any chance of infection. You will be given a cleanser to use on the piercing everyday. Turn the earrings everyday and in 4-6 weeks you'll be fine. And I didn't know anyone used a needle anymore! That sounds like something from the '50's!
I can't believe you asked this, because I just went through this yesterday!! Happy Piercing!

When I got my ear repierced because a whole closed it was like a slight pinched feeling, so not that bad there.
When you use a gun at a piercing place that keeps everthing cleen its no big deal. They use a earing that you select from their piercing earings that has a slight sharp bottom (the part of the earing that goes in first). They put the earing in the gun and place it around what ever part of ur ear your getting pierced and they ''shoot it''. I am not shure about how the needle place will work but I think that the gun will be faster and less painfull.

Do they still use a needle anywhere?
All I ever see is the gun-- what do your friends say is the problem with it? I've never heard of any issues with the gun.
Anyway-- with the gun, its more of a quick sting, then its just sore for a couple of weeks.
My mom and aunt both had their ears pierced with a needle and they said it hurt like heck, so to speak.

Piercing gun is fast and practically painless. The process does not hurt at all your ears lobes have hardly any nerves. However if you plan to piece cartilage your in for more pain.

i got my ears pierced twice because the first time they got infected since im allergic to gold, but i think you should use the gun...its not as scary as it used to be it used to actually sound like a gun but now it just sounds like a loud click....you ears will feel a tight pinch and then maybe a little burning feeling but the person piercing you ears should put alcohol or a cleaning solution on afterwards that makes them feel cooler...dont be scared tho you will only have pain for maybe the first hour or two afterwards...but its not a horrible pain at all!!! good luck hope you enjoy your ears lol
also make sure that you clean your earrings everyday like they tell you too or your ears might get very infected and will hurt...

I would use the peircing gun if I were you! Its fast and painless - feels like a minor pinch!
The needle is not too bad, but it stings more than the gun!
Just close your eyes, tell the people not too count so its a surprise!
Hun, you'll be fine!

Very very little. Maybe like getting a shot? It smarts for a day or so, but really NOTHING to worry about.
Go someplace professional. Don't do it yourself.
Never use alcohol on your earholes. Use antibacterial ointment. You will never have an infection. Use earrings with very good quality metal.
