this is so your homework, lol. But I'll help out. We did the Odyssey last semester.
Circe advised Odysseus to go to a prophet who was already dead ( I forget his name but it starts with a T) so he had to go to the land of the dead. She warns him of Scylla and Charybdis, two female sea monsters. She advises him to avoid Charybdis and try to pass Scylla, because Charybdis is more dangerous.
Odysseus traveled to the underworld(land of the dead) to learn what he must do from the prophet. The prophet said not to touch any of the cattle of the sun god, Helios, and that there were suitors in his house causing trouble, so when he reaches home be cautious in dealing with trhem. He also says that Odysseus will live a full life.
Odysseus avoids Charybdis' whirlpools, and doesn't tell his men that they are about to run into Scylla. Scylla snatches six of his men up, one for each head, and they scream for Odysseus to save them, but he cannot.
These characters probably cause more suspense and shows Odysseus emotions towards his men.
Calypso is a half-goddess who lives on a secluded island with her nymphs. She is very beautiful.
She seduces Odysseus and keeps him on her island for seven years.
Calypso promised Odysseus immortality.
Odysseus said no because he just wants to get home to see his wife, Penelope.
He comes home and Athena disguises him as an old beggar. He goes to the house of the swineherd and stays there until his son, Telemachus, comes home and they meet each other after 20 years. Telemachus takes him to the castle where Penelope questions him about the whereabouts of her husband. Penelope devises a test for the suitors; that if a single one of them can string Odysseus' bow and shoot one of the arrows through 12 axeheads, she would marry him. None of them can even string the bow, so in comes Odysseus he succeeds, and Athena gives him back his handsomeness, lending him beauty. He, Telemachus, the swineherd, and the cowherd kill all of the suitors.
And they all live happily ever after! =)
