Why those two? There are so many great non-chain places in this area! Just go to SE Hawthorne or The Pearl District and walk around!

I'm not in love with either, although I do go sometimes because they're convenient.
I prefer Old Chicago because they don't interrupt your dinner to sing the stupid birthday song (at least never when I've been there, and it's pretty much every time at Red Robin). They also have a great beer selection.

Red Robin. The Royal Burger and fries with a bit of Ranch for dipping is just about the best thing there is. Start off with an order of Buzzard Wings to get the party going.

I have never been to Red Robin, but I went to the Old Chicago in Gresham, and it sucked. The food sucked and the service was abysmal...the best thing about it was the beer, when I could get the idiot who was waiting me to bring me another...

Red Robin. The drinks are better, the fries are bottomless, the burgers actually taste like burgers, and the prices are reasonable for the size of burger you get. I can never finish it.

Red Robin, their Killer Kool-Aid is enough to bring me back by itself. Have to say I'm also partial to their Shrimp in a Basket with side of Caesar salad.
