It's an ethical violation, not to mention a moral one. Check the medical ethics code of your state, county, or province. Try the AMA website for general ethical guidelines.

Reprimands, fines, jailtime...results vary. But it's always wrong and even if you don't get caught, your karma will be dirty and that's reason enough not to do it, doctors!
