I have an almost 1 year old who is happy and healthy but he hates eating his solid food if it contains any lumps that he has to chew on. He just spits them out. It cannot be because he is teething because he has been like it forever. I just find it sooo frustrating!!! I persisit but i just wondered if any body else had the problem and if you had any ideas. I couldbe sitting there for 45 mins with him crying everytime i put it in his mouth. Hee will eat his fruit or yoghurt afterwards (provided he has had enough of the other), so it definately a texture thing with him

45 Min is nothing. my wife have to stay with my son for 2 HOURS! almost every meal but she persisted. Maybe the lumps are a bit too big for you baby. Try to puree the food first then gradually add some very fine lumps. My son will gag if lumps are bigger than the size of a rice )imagine that). Patience my dear... after all he's only a year old.

Then don't worry about it.. he is only 12 months old. He is getting his nutrition. Just keep trying every once in a while.. and .. by the way.. my 19 year old son still don't like lumps hahaha.. so he never eats my mashed potatoes.45 minutes??? Never make a child eat.. they will eat if they are hungry. Lumps and all.. I really liked my pediatrician.. Force them to eat, you are gonna have a fat kid, who will grow up to be a fat depressed adult... Vitamins come in many shapes and forms.. find an alternative.. for now..

He may have a texture problem that makes him gag when he eats certain foods. My sons favorite food was mac n cheese until he turned 3 and it started to gag him. He can no longer eat pasta of any kind. It does make it difficult for feeding nutrious foods when your child refuses to eat certain things. But, remember back when you were a kid and your parents forced you to eat foods you thought were yucky and how you felt about it.

At 9 months my son went from stage 2 food to table food. He refused to eat lumpy purees(stage 3).

Quit giving him lumpy food, then. How easy is that.

Edit: I don't see what the problem is. You spend more time trying to feed him lumps than you would to mash the lumps up before trying to feed it to him. Plus, you make mealtime unpleasant for the both of you. If you know that he has a problem with lumpy food, then take care of the lumps beforehand. It just sounds like you're being stubborn about it.

Its just a personal thing for him. I know some adults who are still super picky about their food.
He will probably grow out of it, but might not.
Hang in there-- it does get easier!

Don't stress about it....
More importantly, don't stress your baby out about it.

He will get the hang of it.
