When do hens start laying eggs? Is it okay to keep chickens just for the summer, or do I have to keep them all year round? When can I move my chickens into a coop? Do they need heat? HELP!

It depends upon how old they are. Different types start at different ages. I had some start at 6 months and others around 9 months. You can keep them year round and they should have some type of house/coop that has a door so you can shut them in at night so animals don't get them. No they don't need heat just protection from the weather. Chickens have no way of perspiring so they have to have water available all the time. I let ours free roam all day long and they go to their house automatically at night to roost. They lay eggs anytime of the day but I generally leave ours in until 9 or 10 in the morning or they will lay them outside somewhere and I don't find them until it's too late. ok, calm down now, I've had them B4, I know what to do. First of all, chichens lay (eggs)all the time. they have seasons however, where they lay the most eggs. These seasons are: summer, spring, and early to mid fall. It mostly depends on your climate, and on the weather conditions. you only need heat in the coop when it is verycold or windy, otherwise, no. Also you could put in some MILD heat, not to disterb the eggs too much, yet enough to help them hatch(if you want them to).otherwise, nothin special , feed them, and give them fresh water, thats all !!!(o and also, they start to lay at different ages).
