Not always, because some smiles are at the expense of others. Also, If I don't like the person smiling, it has no effect on me. But to hear a genuine laugh, like a child's or a truly happy person, yes, that makes me feel very happy. It also makes me happy when I make someone smile or when someone who is sad smiles.

99% of the time Happy and Safe. However, a smile can also represent the worst intentions. Remember the saying "kill them with kindness". I'm sure we've all had someone smile to us only to stab us in the back later on.
To me a smile represents vulnerability, and an openness to suggestion.
Walk down the streets of less fortunate regions in the world and you won't find many smiles, but when you do it is comforting.

Hatred is far to rampant in our world to really evoke any happiness. Smiles are fake and let us know that we live in a fake world because everyone has a dark side.
