limewire is illegal if you download it onto your computer and buy songs. This is because the songs you are downloading have been passed around to people, not paying for them, and the artists are losing money. You can buy a program of limewire where you pay though, and that is not illegal

LimeWire itself is legal. Downloading copyrighted material is illegal.
