You have to download songs or rip a cd to your computer then put them on your ipod. You don't have to pay for the songs if you don't want to but there are always copyrite laws that you are breaking. otherwise from itunes, the software that came with your ipod, has a music store where you can purchase songs if you feel more comfortable. they usually go $.99 to $2.99

this site will give you an ipod just for completing some quick online tasks! really recommend it, especially if you're broke but really want an ipod (like me).

you can rip your home cds for free but online services will cost you about a dollar a song.
