Isn't the entire reason people are in gangs because they DON'T have a "normal family routine"? That's what I thought. Nobody aspires to be in the "gang lifestyle" it's forced upon some, others do it for survival because they were taught it was the only way. Gangs show that they will protect, guide and provide basically. Rookies are lured in by the sounds of it. Then they are in but if they do want to get out it is too late. But I do no sympathize that much with them because everyone has a conscience. But some are born into it like the mafia. Now THESE ones I feel sorry for. I don't believe anything immoral/illegal can help a person. How do you sleep at night knowing you kill and steal for a living? I have now answered your question to the best of MY ability.
*Sincerly moi.*

I am not in a gang, but I do have a little insight on the topic. Many people that are in gangs never had the "normal family routine." They have not been exposed to what we consider family life. The gangs are their family. They feel respected, loved and part of a family that they may have never had. Their gang also offers protection. Don't get it twisted, gangs can be a very organized and not all are about killing and dealing drugs.

I don't think many gang members hang out at this site answering questions like yours.
I just view the lifestyle as a form of population control. These people are performing a public service. I mean they help each other into graves and prisons every day. We could use more of that.

Well it's survival at it's most primal peak. You can move up in the gang ranks, and actually become a very rich individual. Of course you could always die at any time, which keeps up the "thrill" of it. The gang is your family, not just the normal one you are talking about.

What most people don't understand is that it is NOT a option, depending on the neighborhood you are most likely FORCED in.....I asked a family member this question years ago and he informed me that he could no longer opt out......his life was in jeopardy (being shoot at, hiding in bushes and on roof tops) because the gang members were saying that if your not one of us...you must be one of them....needless to say he conceded....
No one will admit that it enhanced there lives they are all people with broken dreams..........
Another false is that they come from broken homes.......not true, just broken neighborhoods....

There is no such thing as a 'gang' lifestyle.
Gangs are not supposed to 'enhance' any future.
For gang members, the streets and the guns are their 'family routine'.
