i have an old compaq presario 7970, that runs on windows 98, i have a system restore disk and everytime i stick it in it says system restore and then the screen goes blank, my computer stopped working one day so i put the disk in and it comes up showing system restore for a few seconds then the screen goes blank, please help!?

Sounds like you've got a bad cd or broken hardware. Try with a copy of Knoppix instead

That will tell you if its hardware or your old Windows CD.

It would be very helpful if you could tell us your computer specifications, so we can tell if it's a hardware issue or just a bad CD. Instead of trying to promote a Linux distribution, I will instead ask if you have the minimum requirements for Windows 98.

Try pressing entering while the CD boot at start up
