Being a Survivor of Katrina from Gulfport, Mississippi and Harrison
county where we got Tidal surges, tornadoes and much flooding
from both not to mention the hurricanes High winds and rain!
I have heard many blame our President for not helping as well as Fema and our Armed Forces.
The bridges were washed out East and West and much damaged
destruction from the north to south and many storms threatening
from the Gulf of Mexico where I am from and was there as a Resident at the time of Katrina at that and saw first hand!
So, I really would like to know what Anyone could have done that
would have caused us to get relief any faster as I am still in Post
Tramatic Shock and it will be a long time healing and I just can not
point fingers at Anyone that could have stopped the Worlds Wake
Up Call? The World suffered and not just those of us whom were
there and suffered beyond anyones imaginations! Please, believe
these words.
Where were they going to come from to help more and how

Instead of pointing fingers at Nagin (good Lord, he isn't even for Mississippi!) or anyone for that matter, I think we should all stop whining and start doing something.

When the Ocean Springs bridge was wiped out, supplies were slow to get to Gulfport, I know. They came, though, and they kicked Michael Brown out of office.

I think that the President had an awful lot on his plate. Don't get on to him too much. He'll be out in a year anyway.

Everyone down here will remember it. Nothing's going to change that. I think that the only thing they could have done was to have supplies ready earlier. In Jackson several fleets of power trucks were waiting, which was a good area considering it could reach New Orleans to Mobile in no time. If they had some trucks of food, water, and ice lined up on August 28, I think it would have been a lot easier on us.

Vally r is right.
Also, the Mayor and the Governor did not do enough to evacuate. It was even mentioned that so many tens of thousands stayed and did not evacuate because they were waiting for their welfare check. Why did the governor not see this and tell them they would not lose their money and that it would be held for them . It is unbelievable that all those buses were not used to get those people out.
The Katrina disaster in New Orleans is a classic example of Government waste and misuse of funds. The Federal government has poured money into that state for years. In fact the refurnishing of the levies was funded by the federal government several years ago but local authorities misappropriated the funds to build a golf course.
Why has this not been reported in the news? I'll tell you why. The news broadcasts are so much half truths and liberal biased opinion. They do not report all the facts. They report their opinion and mislead the public.
It is never the actual unbiased facts reported.

hey hey Mississippi boy, Go Ole Miss! and Southern too I guess, I'm from Picayune and I went to my cousins in Louisiana during the storm but we came back a week after, and everyone that wants to blame Bush for not doing anything is just looking for a scapegoat and something else bad to say about Bush. The President of the United States isnt obligated to take care of a hurricane devastated area. Mississippi and its people have the ability to fuction as a country on its own with its National Gaurd and everything they could have taken care of the situation, and with a little help they did. Thanks to everyone that did come and help out, I've never seen such kindness in my life and I didn't that there were still nice people in the world like that anymore. It was amazing to have someone you've never even known before come and help out with the cleanup effort in our beautiful state, without all their help it wouldn't have gotten done as soon as it did and still is in some places.
God Bless

Thats what I'm saying. People just needed someone to blame for all the destruction so they chose the easiest target. He has no control over the weather. If we as a nation can take away anything good from Katrina, its that bad weather can strike at any moment so be more prepared next time and heed the warnings to evacuate. I am sorry for your losses. I heard that the levees were to be rebuilt a few years back and that the funds were available. They were not rebuilt because the people around them complained so much about the noise that they got it cancelled. Thats just what I heard.

The governing powers in La wasted the money given to them the years before Katrina to fix the problems with their levi's and such on casino funding. It is the state government that is responsible. As for Mississippi, my husband was stationed in Biloxi and we saw the distruction, I didn't even know it had been hit that bad cause all I ever heard about was New orleans! I'm not sure anything else could have been done there or in New Orleans in the after math...but, atleast in new orleans, it shouldn't have been as bad as it was if the goverment there had spent the money allotted to them for repairs to the levis for those repairs.

President Bush may be the most powerful man in the world, but he has no control over huricanes. 1st response is & has to be the responsibility of the state & local govt. FEMA's job is to help with the aftermath. Where state & local governments faild to respond in the beginning, there was very little for FEMA to work with. Sometimes bad things happen & it is not the fault of the federal government.

NO. If ANYONE is to blame for anything it would be Mayor Nagen.

I have seen proof that HUNDREDS of buses sat in a huge parking lots EMPTY and flooded. WHY were those buses not used to get people out of town. People were told to evacuate. Mayor NAGEN failed in that regard in a huge manor.

It's so easy to point the finger at the President, but there was far bigger failures in Louisiana itself.

I think the responsibility for the problems there rests mainly on the shoulders of the local elected officials (mayor) and governor.

The President sent in the troops. He sent in the Red Cross. What more could he have done?

first and foremost, may i just offer my heartfelt sympathies to you and indeed, the whole mass of humanity who were affected by this natural disaster. i watched the horror unfold, live via satellite, and i couldnt even begin to comprehend the feelings,of terror and despair,of fright and misery, the whole tragedy of watching this hurricane moving, hurtling, towards you, hour after hour, watched by millions globally, myself included, watching people fleeing their homes, trying to keep their loved ones all together, some succeeding, others failing. all this and much, much more being observed by almost all of mankind. your president, our queen, the united nations and armed forces,no-one could have helped more than what help was already underway,it could have come to you a little bit sooner maybe, made a tiny bit of difference, not much though. unfortunately, through the times, billions upon billions have been invested in space programmes, nuclear weapons, war, research for this, research for that, how to protect us from this, how to protect us from that,........but no matter what man may invent and no matter how great any individual thinks they may be, no man, men, army, rocket or nuclear weapon will ever, ever, ever, come close to rivalling nature. without going onto another subject, the freak hurricanes, and tidal waves, the floods, the powerful storms, they're all gaining strength and becoming more frequent, yes,as a result to global warming. no-one could have stopped that hurricane or even steered it away,no-one on this earth has any such power to do so,and never will have. that is why the feelings of helplessness for those of us who could do nothing but to watch catastrophes unfolding are so overbearing they engulf us in despair and sorrow,to watch fellow man endure such pain and horror,i prayed that you could feel our strength and love,of little comfort though it would have been,i know! so,rest assured, there is no being on this earth that could have stopped 'the worlds wake up call' as you so rightly called it, and your president was someone that everyone could vent their anger, fear, frustrations and again, feelings of helplessness out on !!!!!!!!!
