i was thinking about what i want to do in the future. I came to the conclusion that this is something i would love to do. I would like to know about what i should major in if i wanted to do this as a career. what would be the best colleges (preferably in the east coast) to attend. what classes should i take my senior year in high school to help with my future plans and stuff.

are there any wedding planners out there that could answer this? or anyone. thanks!

A wedding planner is simply a manager who tells everyone what they're supposed to be doing for an event. It requires organizational and networking skills and the ability to coordinate multiple tasks.

As far as formal education goes, take classes in management. You'll learn what it takes to run a successful business, how to manage individuals and situations, and other related skills. You will find this background to be invaluable in being self-employed and also be able to apply it to the mechanics of planning a wedding.

Regarding schools, I can only suggest going to one that has a decent management department. The quality of the school and the area may help determine the connections you make for the future, but not necessarily give you a better education in this regard. Realistically, the connections are probably more important.

Beyond that, you'll have to start reading on your own. Subscribe to wedding magazines, pick up books about planning weddings (there are quite a few out there), and keep up on current trends. This is where you'll pick up the style aspect of things - standard operations, suggestions to make to the bride, etc. The bride will have to feel comfortable that you know what you're doing and have an understanding of how important that day is to her - the more you know about how a wedding should be, the better.

You might also contact a working wedding planner and ask to act as their unpaid assistant for specific training. If you can work that into your college education as an internship for college credit, even better. This will get your feet wet, give you practical experience, and let you ease yourself into things under the guidance of an experienced professional.

Hope that helps!
