I know for me sometimes I'd rather be in that place of pain than doing well because it can be very comfortable since you're living in the familiar. If you're used to feeling bad then that's just what's easier for you. Getting better is a difficult path, and apparently a new and more difficult one to forge.

It's hard. Life is hard. You're not comfortable or you wouldn't be asking for help. Not trying to be mean. You obviously aren't comfortable or you wouldn't be reaching out to others. Which is what you need to do. You need professional help, take it or talk to people that have had the same problems and ask how they have had to overcome them. Depression and Anxiety are things that you need medication for and a psychologist and or doctor. And being anorexic is something very serious, you need to take the help that people are trying to give you. It will be hard (I could only imagine) but you want to be healthy and happy again. I'm sorry you are going through so much right now. Doesn't seem like things will ever be better huh?! I promise they will. Please get some help!

My first question would be "better from what?". Maybe your "horrible place" is your "comfort zone" and you feel safer there cause it's what you've known. I put off getting help for many years because I couldnt see how I could possibly get better and it was "safer" for me just to deal with what was wrong with me than to venture out there and deal with it.

When I hear myself asking a question like yours, I stop and try to figure out what I am getting out of things being the way they are. When things stink, having things be the way they are is NOT what we are getting out of them being the way they are. Perhaps we feel good when we complain about how much things stink. Perhaps, having an excuse like "everything is terrible" is what we get out of having everything be terrible.

Try to think of what you are getting out of not changing. And then you can make a more informed decision as to whether or not to change.

Fear is overcome through knowledge, being comfortable in a bad place can feel better than feeling uncomfortable in a good one.

Freud called it the repetition compulsion. Self improvement takes more effort than most people realize. You need to visualize yourself as having succeeded in your desired change. Then, assess what action you need to take to implement the change. You need to keep the mental image of your goal in the forefront of your mind long enough for it to take hold. When you talk to yourself, tell yourself positive things, such as, "I am becoming this person that I want to be."

It seems to be an unfortunate human fault to become comfortable in our misery. When you have finally had enough you will do something about it. I hope you do not wait until it is too late.

Maybe you're comfortable with the attention you get by keeping yourself in those situations and not the actual situations themselves.

kayla,

i am suffering from major depression disorder and borderline personality disorder so i understand what you are dealing with. i am seriously advising you to seek treatment immediately. if you are afraid, which is understandable, please check out www.dbtselfhelp.com there is a lot of good advice on that site.

but please don't be afraid to get help. i think you want to because otherwise you wouldn't be here asking for help. that is the first step and it is a couraegeous one. you are reaching out and that means you are not crazy but taht you recognize you need help. this is good.

please contact me if you want. i want to make sure you are safe.

Only if you really want to. Now, why would you really want that?

How would you get that in a better way for your health?
