"Wherefore" actually means "why."
She has fallen in love with somebody from a family that her family despises. She is asking "Why are you Romeo?" as in "Why are you, the person I fell in love with, Romeo and not somebody that my family actually likes."
If you read the rest of the text of this famous monologue with this in mind, it makes more sense. The whole monologue is about wishing he wasn't a Montague.

the place's the question or did u purely desire to recite Shakespeare to us? Its a typical false impression that pple think of the line 'romeo, romeo wherefore are thou Romeo?' is Juliet asking the place Romeo may well be, yet once you study the strains after she's actual asking why he ought to be Romeo Montague

Wherefore art thou Romeo means; "Where is my Romeo?" She says that because they were suppose to meet at her balcony and he i think got late so she was saying Wherefore art thou Romeo in a poetic way to see if Romeo was near and heard her. Hey person above me if you haven't read the book they can't meet because their families are enimies and they fight like everyday and if they were to meet bad stuff will happen. So they had to meet secretly.

Listen to Joey, wherefore actually means why, she wants to know why Romeo is a Montague and not someone who her family would be willing to accept as a suitable suitor. Basically, why are you my enemy, why are you you and not someone i can have!

Where are you Romeo? Juliet is wondering where he is because he is not with her, she wants him to be with her. Why can't he be with her?
