"Hot glue" will dry harder but won't be as strong as a "white glue" like Elmers Glue All (which will dry somewhat flexible).
You can use them both at the same time though... put the white glue down first in a few areas, especially where the most strength is needed... then put the hot glue in the other places in or around the white glue, where you want the glue to be "hard." Then put the pieces together... the hot glue will hold immediately, but the white glue will dry over time and give a stronger bond.

Hot glue (using glue gun) holds better and dries faster. Elmer's glue is good only on flat, abrasive surfaces. Hot glue works even on curves, corners and smooth surfaces.

i'd use hot glue for that. it's not which dries harder it's which bonds better. elmers when dry and pressed on with your nail will crack but hot glue when dry would dent, but elmers is just good for 2-d arts and crafts and paper stuff.

I'd definately use hot glue.
not only will it dry harder, but you can be more controlled with it, and make the lines look EXACTLy how you want them to.
with elmer's glue it can tend to be a little runny and could potentially ruin your design.

from personal experience, hot glue is much harder after it dries, but sometimes elmers glue holds better.
