I'm a cheerleader myself, though some people don't consider it to be a sport. I believe it is but what are the actual qualifications to call cheerleading a "sport" and whether people should pay more attention to cheerleaders or not.

I don't think that I am actually getting my question through. I'm mainly talking about high school cheerleading, not NFL cheerleading...I want to know if people think high school cheerleading is a sport, not NFL. The question may be oddly worded.

i don't mind cheerleaders but they get way too much attention. there is many other sports that get "ignored". and some people consider cheerleading not a sport. i defintelty think it is a sport because i know from friends that it is a hardworking sport. so no problem with that. but most cheerleaders get way too much attention and are normally popular. i have met about 2 cheerleaders that are not popular and those are hard to find.

I asked a similar question just last night in here. I think it could be consider a sport when the teams are really good like with athletic routines (flips, stands, etc). Some schools have cheerleaders just to have some eye candy on the sideline but actual sport of cheerleading is VERY TOUGH. I couldn't compete at any level higher than high school. Still, I also understand that it's not really a game against another team or player. A compromise...at least here on Yahoo Answers...would be to allow it a category in performing arts. I could live with that even though I strongly believe it's a sport.

Cheerleaders have a reputation for being mean and popular but all that aside we are some serious atheletes. The long hours of practice can leave you seriously sore. I was a 4 year varsity cheeleader with a college scholarship and we did some serious weight training and cardio in our morning workouts then in the afternoon workouts we worked on jumps, stunts, cheers and dances. There is a lot more to it than just a pretty face and a great body.

I think it's a sport. I have never done it because I have never been flexible enough, but cheerleading takes Major strength. Plus it looks REALLY cool!

More physical than bowling, golf, or pool. A better question is what constitutes a sport? It has to involve a level of skill, coordination, and consistency that are not easily replicated. Most importantly, there has to be competition involved. So, cheer-leading at a game...cutesy things to look at. At a cheer competition...sport. Waiting for me in my bedroom...priceless.

I don't have nothing against female cheerleaders but I sure do wish that they would have something against me from time to time.
