They have no real power. Parliment runs the country and I have never seen the Queen meeting with President Bush to discuss war stragedy. I mean are these royals funded with tax dollars. If they are, they lounge around collect public funds to do what exactly? I don't see them going to work.

You know I never thought of the tourist dollars that they bring in daily. Maybe they should charge tourist to watch us vote here, since the politicans could careless what we say.

First, I have no real power, but i still exist, that is a meaningless argument. However the question of why they are funded by tax money still stands. The easy economics answer is that they actually bring more money in to the country (by tourism) than they take (only about £60m a year).
You may not see the queen visiting George Bush but she does in fact meet with Tony Blair once a week, which many would call power.
The main reason i think they are still here is apathy. Why go through the turmoil of getting rid of them when you dont have to?
As you say they dont have real power so who cares?

The Brits TRIED republicanism. Went back to the Monarchical form of Government. Since then they have been trying Constitutional Monarchy system.

The Sovereign still has the power to Rule; under a functioning constitutional monarchy she does not exercise that power other than in a few instances ... such as Declaring War,appointing Ambassadors, Dissolving Parliament, Calling Parliament, etc.

However, if a modern Guy Fawkes were to successfully eliminate most of the politicians, what would happen to Government? As long as Her Majesty's Armed Services were in Allegiance to her, IMO she could Rule by Privy Council or, ultimately, just by her Sovereign Power.

Because they symbolise Britain and constitutional monarchy is the most stable form of government in the world.

The Queen DOES work. She has numerous duties representing Britain, supporting charities, recognizing those that help others and make this country a better place, performing symbolic actions that unite us as a nation and people. The Queen works tremendously hard.

They are just a figurehead- a symbol of long standing tradition. They bring in a lot of tourism. Surprisingly they pretty much support themselves- they do use some of the taxpayers money but not near as much as they used to.

That is all true but it is their heritage. I am personally fascinated with the monarchy (not the current, mind you) of England and their history. It is truly amazing. Even France is interesting. I think it is outdated, yes, but it is wonderful that they continue their tradition into the new age. There is so much history there.
