the DivX codec is a different matter from the MPEG-1 codec (which all systems should have)
so you are probably missing the mpeg-1 video codec, the audio works fine as it's probably mp3 or some other format

your quick fix is using the highly portable vlc media player, (i usually lug this around on a usb if i need to use it at school)

but if you want to play it through wmp or some other media players that support "DirectShow" you can download what is known as a codec pack

i recommend using this codec pack, CCCP :

the quicktime alternative:

and the real alternative:

i've been running this combo and have had no problems playing any type of media file.

Windows media player sometimes has issues in playing mpg files because of missing codecs. I recommend using VLC media player, it's working well for me. It usually takes a while to locate the correct codecs for the job so I suggest trying the media player i suggested. Good Luck!
