Your plugging in a block heater? Must be cold. It takes a number of hours depending how cold it is. My rig is plugged in overnight. Don't need no special juice(ether) very hard on the engine that stuff is. Next morning truck starts like a hot damn. But plugging in for an hour won't do it, especially if you got miles on the engine and it is below freezing outside. Need more heat.
If it don't start after an overnight plug, and the engine is warm(feel with your hand) then there is something wrong mechanically

get the vehicle towed to a indoor garage thats heated and let it sit over night, you are experiencing gelling, once it thaws out then will start, the temperature has dropped below zero here in newengland and happens to alot of people with deisal, also reccomend putting ina special antifreeze made for diesal gas into your tank when ever you fill your tank , vw dealers have it , and also buy your diesal where the 18 wheelers do because the diesal there already has a special antifreeze in it

I take it you are now up north....just what grade of diesel do you have in your truck? Number one is for cold country, otherwise the diesel fuel can turn to jelly. Dont know your truck but that could be one problem.

Your fuel probably sludged up.Keep on trying to start it and maybe you'll get lucky. If not then get the fuel system warm somehow.Oh and make sure your block heater is plugged in and you have power.
