That's one of the best parts about baseball. If you go to a football game or a basketball game you know you're going to be there for a few hours and then it's all over...
When you go to a baseball game it could last two hours or you could be there until the wee-hours of the morning.
The game isn't about time, it's about sitting back and enjoying the game for all of it's intricacies and subtle nuances. It's man vs. man, but at the same time it's completely a team game. It's wonderful.
There is no way you could use a clock in baseball without ruining the game and personally I think that the best reason there isn't a clock in baseball is because when you go to a game you want to forget all about time and whatever else is going on in the world..you just want to get sucked into the game and enjoy it.

Because there are definitive ways to end an inning and to end a game. Which actually means that it's the only one that really makes sense. After all, clock's don't play games.

That's part if it's charm.
Baseball is also the ONLY sport where the defense has control of the ball.
There is a curfew in baseball: No inning can START after 2am ( I believe it is 2am). If an inning started before 2am that inning must finish, then the game is called and must be completed before the beginning of the next regualr game.

I don't think Cricket uses one.
When the game was invented, the guys needed a way to fairly even out who bats and who fields. They came up with the 3 outs idea, and ran with it. If they played 15 minute innings, then there's no reward for a team being hot. High scoring innings make a game fun to watch.

Outs take the place of time. It is also the only team sport (and cricket, etc.) where the defense controls the game play.

THOUGHT: "Time is the invention of man to keep everything from happening simultaneously".
Interesting... this poses the question:
Is time the invention of man because with our limited consciousness of the Universe we must have an established order of events in earth lives?
This is why baseball is for intellects.

There is no "clock" however, the pitcher has only 12 seconds, from the time he gets the ball, to deliver the next pitch.
