Sometimes people feel it's important to indicate that they are expressing an opinion rather than stating a fact. Different subject matter usually. If I am talking about something that could involve facts I like to refer to whatever research I've done. If it's something about personal relationships and whether or not somebody should get back together with someone who may or may not have done something that may or may not have been despicable I like to add IMHO.
