All the answers above will damage the coins. If collectors items see a coin dealer, he maybe able to help you salvage some of them. If just spending money, then any clearer will do.

baking soda works well too, I use it to clean the build up off copper, bronze and silver collectibles. It works like a semi rough polish. Good Luck
