It's a place called crucial. They can scan your computer online and tell you what is and what isn't compatible with your system.
I bought extra RAM and a graphics card for my emachines pc from them - not had a problem.

the money you spend on an emachine is a waste. Use the money toward a better computer. I know it sound harsh but it is a throw-away system. The celeron processor will never perform like you want it to.
FYI- emachines have the highest rate of problems and lowest customer approval rates.
Be happy is works at all and invest in something better when it dies.

Go ahead and use the Emachine resources. Website and customer service phone numbers are there for you. You will need to know the model number of your computer, and perhaps the serial number, so have them handy. Study the information about which type of graphics card is in your current system. Common ones today are PCI, AGP, PCIExpress. You will need to know the difference for they are Not interchangable. Finally, you may have integrated or onboard graphics memory, if you do, you still need to verify what slots (AGP, PCI, PCIExpress) that are on the motherboard in order to get what you wish. Good luck.

This is kind of ruthless, but what I did for my emachine 3.1 Ghz when I needed to buy RAM was called their tech support person. After they gave me the info. I needed, I bought it aftermarket.
Hey, they make it, they already got my money for the computer, right?
It worked for me!
