That is were all the files are stored from your browsers, were you have been on the Internet, including all the advertisements, pop ups and more.
If you liked a flash file or mp3,wmv, ect. files that you want to keep, look for them there.
To delete them all cleanly in windows 98 and also works in other windows:
right click your temporary Internet and select find (search)
in the find input *.*
Delete the FOLDERS that don't make since.
don't delete contents.
If you have more then 5,000 files don't delete all the folders at one time.
When you delete the folders the files will be deleted
After you are done you will have two things left.
index and contents.
Also feel free to delete everything under temp.
There may be a few you can't delete, don't worry about it.
Don't forget to empty the recycle bin.
This should be done before defrag.
I just did this on someone old laptop, there was 600 kb in files that was deleted.

Any time you view a site from Internet. It has a lot of components attached to make the viewing more comfortable.

All it does it download all the images, javascripts, etc to local folder named "Temporary Internet File" and displays in the screen.

It will have files that opened in your computer.

Hope this helps.

the temporary internet files are meant to contain files that your computer had taking the time downloading while visiting web pages, and it's purpose is to speed up the loading of the same page the next time you visit the same website.

You can go ahead and delete them nothing happens.

but if it is there, they got there for a reason... for instance if you just found porn pictures there... that only means that someone has been looking at porn sometime during the life of your computer, and NO they did not get there by magic... maybe by accident, but yes someone visited the page that contained such images, or cookies.

the pop-ups are consecuence of either spyware, pop-up callers, like "zango" or maybe becasue that is how the website was intended to present itself, and to close it, means only that, you close it, nothing more.
but if everytime you open the browser, a different pop-up comes up, and they become annoying... you need use some anty-spyware programs like ad-aware or spy-bot. to try and clean up your registry.

Tempory files store a really small section of information from all the pages you vist on the web. They are harmless and generally help pages to load up much quicker by storing graphic and such so that they load quicker.

They can slow down you pc a lot though so empty them about once a week.
