Well, there's not a whole lot to know really. We are the same as anyone else, exept we like women. You could mention how beautiful another woman is or talk about women. I guess whatever you want. That Mantroll dude is a fake-don't pay him any attention. I think their is 2 types of lesbians basically. Some are very tomboyish and wear baggy pants, short hair, kinda acts like a guy, then their are what you call lipstick lesbians. They are more femonine than the tomboy chicks. Some wear make-up and are girly. My girlf is a tomboy, she has long hair. She's girly too though. She's kinda in between I guess. Neither one of us are manly. I am more girly- I wear make up and paint my toes. She NEVER wears make up. She does wear the baggy clothes though. We are like anyone else. We even have my son(Junior) he lives with us.

Most lesbians are just like anyone else, which is why you can't always spot them. What you're looking for is a stereotype.
Those stereotypes include trendy choppy haircuts, feminism, short fingernails, vegetarians, unshaven, little to no make-up, ponytails, buzz cuts, masculinity, comfortable sensible foot ware, ball caps, sports (soccer, RUGBY, SOFTBALL, basketball), riot girl music, human rights and rainbow stickers, experimental clothing styles, neck ties, severe love of Ani DiFranco and Angelina Jolie, Butch/Femme dynamics, polo shirts, displaying that girl/girl Kiss poster, Drag Kings, The L Word obsession, calling some gal you've been with for two weeks "wife." The list is endless.

As you probably already know, generalizations and stereotypes aren't all that great for crafting a real character, and lesbians come as individual as anyone else.
I think some really great research could be done by browsing the forums at butch-femme.com, which gives a great window onto the lesbian outlook and life, albeit one that is invested in the butch-femme dynamic.
Good luck!

well, you canNOT believe in any of the insulting stereotypes that gay mantroll rattled off in his posting. the important thing about being a lesbian? that you're attracted to and only to women. I think any "characteristics" you're looking for are the stereotypes that the bigots like to refer to as truth (like we're all butch, drive trucks, hate men, want to "be" a man, all ugly, all use dildos, we all play softball or some other sport, we all work on cars, we all dress like men...well, I could go on...). we're all as different and diverse as straight people are. there is no one "type" or characteristic of being a lesbian.

Firstly, be true to yourself. Many of us do not realize our situation at first and it can be years before something makes us realize. I,m sure that if there are lesbians on line with you you will be told if you are blatantly incorrect.

Don't get attracted to men, don't fall into stereotypes, don't shop at WalMart, don't put nasty junk in your mouth...this includes fast foods of anysort, don't let anyone lable you (or your character in this case), don't pretend to be something you're not. Oh sorry...that last one kinda goes against the whole concept of MUDS and RPGs sorry...

Gay mantroll: you are nasty to spread such sterotypes and hate.
Lesbians are just everyday people who happen to enjoy having relationships with other women instead of men.
