They have a lot of shows about this on animal planet. I don't know where to find the written laws about animal cruelty, but i know there are laws. And even though there are laws against this, it doesn't always help. The animal cruelty officers have to fight to get someone arrested, and often if they DO get arrested they get off with a fine, or sometimes nothing. It is unfair that animal cruelty isn't taken more serious.

Yes I believe they do. I've seen on animal planet before the A.S.P.C.A. was going around and getting the animals that were being abused to the vet since their health was so poor. I believe that the cops will arrest the person for abusing an animal if not they will be given a fine. I always thought animal abuse was a felony if not its still a punishable crime.. If you want to find the laws try a simple search through google or something.

There are written laws but for the most part they're minimal and poorly enforced. Where I live, as long as it has food and shelter and water, it's considered being taken care of, regardless of whether the shelter is a cardboard box, the food is the occasional bucket of molded spoiled leftovers, and the water is green with manure in it. More urban areas tend to have stricter laws, but penalties are still lax and often little more than a slap on the wrist. The judges often let them off much easier than they deserve. To actually be convicted and get jail time and the big fines, they have to have like, 100 dogs crammed into a single home with half of them dead and the other half eating them, or they put the puppy in the oven, or something heinous like that.

Yes, there are laws against animal cruelty. The laws and the punishments vary depending on where you are, so you would need to check what the local legislation is in your area.

Yes, depending on the crime animals are confiscated and owners are imprisoned or fined for their actions. Some owners can work with the SPCA or another organization so that they give up their animals and aren't charged with anything, but that's usually the owners that don't know what they're doing to their animals.

Each state has different laws. Look here for a list http://www.catler.org/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=list&forum=lawstuff

Absolutely, if you harm an animal, you get a short prison term or/and a fine. For things like dog fighting and aggravated animal cruelty(aka, killing an animal cruelly) you can get up to a year in prison and up to a 5,000 dollar fine.
