Why are people so obsessed with clothing and make-up? Preps die if they cant have clothing from ambercrappy or hollister. In public bathrooms waiting to wash my hands there are flocks of girls crowding the sink and mirror applying make-up. Yes, i understand the need/want to look good. But why? Why is this world full of wanna be preps walking plastered head to foot with make-up and clothing, carrying their razor phone, and plugged into their ipod listening to rap music? It is disturbing. What is this world coming to?

btw...i am a girl.
ragini- i do have a life. a busy one in fact.
cali- go ahead and call me pathetic...i dont care what others think.
"then i could say you're a wannabe covered in crap". good counter argument.
"are you mad cuz we like high quality things?" No, because i own high quality things, just not invested in clothing that will only last a year then is gone or will be out of fashion in half a year.
My point is- most teen girls have become so materialistic. I know people, like you work hard for money. I had to work my *** off to pay for my 14k car. Instead of "wasting" time, money, energy, it could be put to use to more important things.

Not everyone is. I'm not. I'm beautiful enough already! Only the insecure are obsessed with make up. It's a like a mask for them. Same with clothing. It's all about the labels and designers which gives the impression of having style and money when you probably have neither. Having said that, I am much more into clothes than make up.

Teenage girls are a bad example to use for "people" as a whole.

At a young age, girls (and guys) want to fit in. They try so hard to blend with the crowd, and follow the popular trends that are usually set by their favorite celebrities. Right now, women like Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan, and the like are the trend setters. It's a desire to be popular, a desire to be liked, a desire to be part of the "in" crowd. There is no real answer to your "why?" This is just one of those things that exist for "just because." Those girls will grow out of that stage, and eventually find their own identity, just like millions of females before them.

If you are disturbed so badly by their behavior, then that is very telling about your own self image. If you were happy with the way you are, inside and out, then those girls primping in the bathroom wouldn't disturb you. So why not try focusing on your own self esteem and confidence level instead of worrying about them? This is something that has to come from within. If you can be happy on the inside, then nothing on the outside can bother you.

People dress or do their makeup different ways and for different reasons. I myself am a Walmart shopper for alot of my clothing and as far as makeup I rarely leave the houe without my makeup applied. I don't dress nor put on makeup for anyone other myself and how the makeup and the clothing make me feel. When i go ut in public I want to feel comfortable and self confident in how I look, and that's how the clothing and makeup help me with that.

Everyone wants to put their best foot forward. Maybe it is to "impress" others, set them apart from the pack. First impressions do count. Maybe they are trying too hard. They say "If youve got it.. flaunt it", If you know who you are, it is not necessary tosell yourself. When you sit back, and watch all of this and become a "people watcher", you encounter all sorts of comical antics, Learn to be yourself!

Dont even worry about it-let them waste all mommy and daddy's money, driving around in their bimmers and benzes. Their all wasting their precious time not knowing that when they get older-life isn't about all that crap. Then their not gonna know a damn thing about life and even how to work, clean, take care of themselves,etc...

frankly, I think we do it because we think guys dig that kinda thing, we are living in a material based world where all that matters is looks and money, not a good thing, we also do it because it is in human nature to want to look 'good' look at the ancient egyptians, they were going to extream lengths way before we were!

what a b*tch, don't bash what other people like, what, do you want me sitting here saying whatever you like is stupid and that not applying makeup is stupid??!!! we aren't OBSSESSED with it, we just like it, so if you do like hot topic (just saying if) then i could say you're a wannabe covered in crap with no makeup or whatever s*it. just because you dont like abercrombie or preps, get a life, i don't like YOU. just to tell you, this isn;t because we're trying to follow a trend or anything, it's just a majority of us, happen to like the same thing....or is that too good for you? and what, are you mad cuz we like high quality things? and don't assume we use our parents money all the time, only freaking jealous people say that, i work hard for my money.
god you are the one disturbing me.
you are so pathetic.

well for one thing, you might want these girls to put their make-up on for the sake of your eyes...but for another thing its a way of showing that they aren't comfortable with themselves, and they NEED "daddy's" money to feel confident. since they have no personality, they have to show it in buying the "best" of everything instead of actually thinking for themselves!
