I was on my gateway laptop, which I bought about there months ago. I didn't have the battery in so it was plugged in…. Until I accidentally unplugged it… When I turned it back on all my documents in Microsoft Word, Pictures, and some software was completely gone!!! While other softwear was still there. I don't get it the plug came out, and this has happen before without me losing my work.... so when the laptop turned on again my work was gone! I tried restoring my computer but this does not work.
How can I get my work back!????
Oh and all my internet favorites were also gone.

Okay I want you to do the following:

↓ Reboot (Restart your pc)
↓ Keep tapping F8 (It may beep but keep tapping)
↓ A new boot up screen will appear
↓ Select Safe Mode
↓ Your pc will start up
↓ When the account come up select admin
↓ When it logs on a pop-up will appear
↓ It will ask to run a debug diagnostic
↓ Click yes
↓ Then restart your pc as normal (after the scan)
↓ This should fix the problem hopefully...

Why don't you leave the battery in....That defies logic! When you unplugged it, it did not have a chance to autosave anything. So guess what...It's gone! You just bought the computer 3 months ago it's under warranty for at least 9 more months...you got a problem with using batteries? Your actually lucky you did not lock up and ruin the hard drive. If you keep operating the computer the way you do you will lock it up and probably after the warranty expires. Use your battery next time that is what it's for.

The choice of the profile would be the correct issue here. As one said, goto c:\documents and settings\ and look at the names there. You might have to like on my computer, c drive, Tools in the top menu, folder options, view tab, put a dot on show hidden files and folders, and click ok. Then look at all the folders under the "documents and settings" folder. The profiles should show there, under that profile will be the my documents folder check them for your missing doc, pics, etc.

Hi. Make sure you are logged in as the same user. The work on one account will not show up on another. Other than that you may need a file recovery program. Some are free on the web. Good luck!

It sounds like your profile was corrupted...

Yo umay need to boot into safe mode, log in as the administrator...and try to locate your old profile in the Documents and Settings folder on the C:\ drive. Copy that information into a place on the drive where you can find it that is not profile dependant...(the root of the drive is usually a good place)

I would suggest using R-Studio, you can download it from the link below.

All you have to do is run the program and it should allow you to recover all your deleted files.

Good Luck, I wish you every success and hope you can get your work back. I know how much it sucks.
