It is impossible to secure it 100%. Don't believe anyone who tells you it is. Below are the programs I run and stay clean of viruses and spyware/adaware.

I use McAfee Security Suite. That includes anti-virus and a firewall.

Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/ . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.

Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/products/select_your_product.php

Download SpywareBlaster---http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html

SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.

It's main features include:
- Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
- Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
- Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.

First of all DON'T! All you really need is a good FREE anti-virus software, I recommend AVG free edition, and some common sense! If you have IE7 they have already got a good pop-up blocker, and a phishing filter, if you feel that is necessary. Going out and loading your pc down with expensive anti-virus software, and spyware blockers, will only slow down your pc, and cause more problems than anything.

Unplug it from the internet....that is the Highest level of protection....

Aside from that...there are many different spyware, antivirus, and firewall programs...People have their own opinion of different softwares.

Personally I use Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security for the antivirus, my router for the firewall, Ad-Aware SE Professional for the antispyware....

Its all about NOD32, I have been virus and spyware free ever since I started using it. It uses next to no system resources and out performs all other checkers on the market.
