I'm a middle school student who likes to read high school level books (and not about immortals) and I really enjoy (most) fantasies. I'll take any suggestions.

Life of Pi is exceptional if youd like a story about crossing the Pacific with a Siberian Tiger - its a very well researched novel by Yann Tersen

The Eagle and the Raven is one of the most moving books ive ever read - an historical novel about an ancient celtic tribe fighting the Roman empire

The Electric Kool-ade Acid Test - about Ken Kesey's (author of One Flew Over the Cookoos Nest, another good book) role in the LSD revolution

anything by Noam Chomsky - He is a genius of modern history and politics and it will make you think

Terry Pratchett diskworld novels are great - really funny fantasy books with a lot of depth

anything by Neil Gaiman - try the graphic novel Sandman Series, or his novel "American Gods"

have fun!

Read the inappropriately-named Hitchhicker's Guide to the Universe Trilogy (there are 5 books) by Douglas Adams.
It's a sci-fi fantasy comedy. The character Marvin the Paranoid Android inspired a Radiohead song (or at least the title.)

Ender's Game

Perks of Being a wallflower

Terry Goodkind's sword of truth series (each story is like 900 pages long and there are like 10 books in the series, so it will keep you busy for a verrrry long time)

Brave New World (starts out kinda slow, but becomes a very good very deep book. It's one of those ones that makes you think alot after you're done reading it)

Lord of the Rings books

Wicked

Son of a witch (sequel to wicked, but can be read without wicked)

The Wayfarer redemption series (all works around this one prophecy that you get to read in the begining-it's very cool to see it unravel)

Lirael/Sabriel/Abhorsen- A fantasy series that first follows Sabriel, then follows Lirael. Very good book typical two worlds world of living world of dead one woman must save the world of the living. good book tho.

"Cry to Heaven" by Anne Rice. It is about the Italian Castratti in Italy and based upon fact interspersed with fiction...though the story is based upon truth. It is how the Catholic Church bought young men,had them castrated to keep them femme and become opera singers. Strange sounding but a good read nonetheless.
This is my favourite book aside from Alexandre Dumas who wrote "The man in the Iron Mask", "The Count of Monte Cristo" and "The three Musketeers. I highly recommend all of these...All my best to you...great question!!!!!!

Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemmingway. Short, simple, easy read. A little melodramatic but a quick book to read and a great example that you don't need an epic story or fancy words to make great writing.

After a chain of events leave him homeless, Skif lands in the lair of Bazie, an Faginish ex-mercenary who trains thieves...until he is "Chosen" by one of Valdemar's magical horses and becomes a Herald serving the Queen.
