I will be graduating soon, with a Math major. I don't know what I want with my life, I just want a decent paying job. I don't particularly care in what industry. What should I say to the employer during an interview, without seeming unfocused?

You should make something up, or at least tell them what you think you want to do (but make it sound like you're commited to that plan).

Most Employers (if not all) will not hire you if you do not have specific career goals. I would suggest looking up advice on how to act and what to say in a job interview...

If you are interviewing then you probably are there for a specific job, right. Problem solved. You don't need a career goal to hold down a job. But a goal would make any job you have in that career path more pleasant. Love what you do and do what you love.

perhaps, that you are looking for an opportunity to make use of your skills, education, energy, and willingness to learn new things. You can acknowledge that you may not have a set career title in mind but rather a career style. You want a career that gives opp for you to learn and challenge yourself, blah blah blah. Try sounding open and eager rather than "unfocused". is all in how you present it... good luck

Why did you choose the math major? Do you like it? Tell them why you chose that major, then say that you can be a supportive and integral part of that business or company.

But... what job are you applying for that you don't know specifically what to do? I don't understand why you chose math if you don't know what you can do with it...

Tell the interviewer that you'd like your goals to be defined by what you enjoy doing and by where your abilities take you, as long as your duties are challenging and there is opportunity for advancement.
