Is there a performance difference or different sizes depending on what the manufacturer made?

Because different engines require a smaller/larger amount of charge for the spark plugs. The wire is proportioned to the amount of electricity needed for the spark.

Basically this, nothing. The thicker wires have more protection around the core. They just look cool. Unless you have a high voltage ignition system you wont see any difference between the wires. The types of cores used to carry the current has the largest effect.

Usually the larger the wire the less resistance and the ability to take more heat.
