A good part of the world passionately hates our nation. Our name is in the dirt. Are you still proud of your country? Will we see better days, will our country ever return to a repectable nation like it used to be?

I would not say I am ashamed to be an American, BUT I am ashamed at the way most Americans act when they are in another country. I have traveled in many foreign counties and spent time in those countries. Most Americans come to other countries with the attitude they are better than anyone else. they talk down to and belittle those in the country they are in.

A few years ago there were kits offered that had Canadian flags and emblems to try and hide the Americans true identity. It didn't work too well because the American attitude showed them up rapidly.

When you are in a foreign country, accept the people where they are at and don't try to be better than them...Accept their way of life. Never act better then they are. It will go a long way towards making your stay pleasant

This Liberal says No

I am proud to be an American.
And the times they are not that dark.

By the way we have never really been any more respectable than any other nation. Just look at our history.

Still we have changed the world, for the better I think. After all our greatest contribution is that regular people can rule themselves. And we have destroyed great evils. Give it time. The pendulum will swing back.

If I were American and voted for Bush.. I WOULD be VERY ashamed.. for being a part of an illegal invasion of a sovereign nation..

All those people who voted for Bush.. are either very very ignorant.. very very braiinwashable.. or just the types who don't care about the wellbeing of innocent people on the other side of the globe..

I say this because i remember speaking with people around the time and the Bush supporters had this attitude of superiority for a while there.. they thought they had so much power.. that their army would fix everything.. in reality these are greedy selfish people who are only interested in their own personal prosperity.. THATS why they voted for Bush.. no other reason.. Bush did nothing for the blacks in New Orleans, refused ot ratify Kyoto.. started an illegal war to steal oil, and changed so many laws now in USA.. that no one knows whats legal an more.. although if you work for companies like Enron or Halliburton.. then everything is legal apparently..

Well.. If I were a Bush voter.. I WOULD be ashamed.. to the point I would hardly be admitting it.. especially if travelling overseas..

Bush is a war criminal and a coward

I am not ashamed to be an American citizen, because of the freedoms that America stands for. I am ashamed of what we have been doing these last five years. I am ashamed of a lot of our past. I am ashamed of many of my fellow citizens. I am ashamed of my president.

So I don't know how to answer your query. I do know one thing. When I go to another country and someone asks me where I'm from, I say "I'm an American BUT I didn't vote for Bush and I don't agree with the war in Iraq" So that should tell you something.

I know lets help the side that has innocent civilains being slaughtered and cleansed so we can save lives...oh yeah oops that happened it was called vietnam, oh I KNOW lets just give food and health supplies to the people of war torn areas.....like africa....damn, happened again the paramilitary's are stealing there food. the sad fact of the matter is when we help were the bad guys because hippie draft dodoging morons hate our gov. and those who went to war are called evil morons well maybe they are for defending citizens of a nation were they are questioning wheter or not they should be ashamed of ourselves. How dare amercia liberate nations, give free food and medicine. what kind of sickos allow there own soldiers to be killed in some god forsaken nation then turn around and rebuild all the damage that other nations caused. and on top of all of this protect peoples rights to call our soldiers morons well maybe thier are.....but they are never ashamed!

This question is stereotyping people. Some people should be ashamed to be American, some should not, some just are, some are not. It's only a state of mind, a human feeling, there isn't a correct or incorrect answer.

I'm not exactly proud or dishonored by that fact. But I do think that what this country needs is a Prez. with it's head out of the clouds. Whose heart is pure, and mind has found the right path that is best for the country. That knows what it is like to be in poverty and faced harships, unlike the snooty rich people who only care for themselves and don't work for alowence, or their living. But that is only the view of a 13 year old, that goes to show I don't know much about politics.

I'm not ashamed of being an American. I'm ashamed of some of the things we do. It's hard to foster self respect if you don't have a sense of shame when you do something wrong. America has done a lot of things right, but we need to acknowledge when we have done things wrong. We should then work to rectify the situation.

Never! I strongly disagree with some things our government has done, particularly with this administration, but I would never be ashamed to belong to this great country. Imagine where this world would be without us to guide the rest out of despotism and chaos. We are freedom's best hope, it's just isn't as bright a hope as in the past.
