Pasadena Mudslide

We see this EVERY DAY in this forum: Everyone hears about the great weather in SoCal or believes they are the next great actor/model/singer, then starts looking for the "cheap, clean, and safe". It's all about supply and demand: If it's in SoCal, then it's not going to be cheap to begin with. If it's clean and safe, then it's more expensive. If you need good schools, add a couple hundred bucks a month on top of it. If you want to live here and enjoy the weather, then you have to pay for it. You put up with the smog and the traffic, enjoy the weather and pay your rent or mortgage. "LA" is such a big place, there are so many neighborhoods/cities where you can live. Of course, even within a city or neighborhood, there are safer sections and less-safe sections. This applies to Pasadena as well, which is a pretty large city. There are some sections of Pasadena (north and east) which are not as nice, not as safe. Safety is all about the area in which you live. Basically, the more expensive it is, the safer it is. The job market is pretty good here. The metro area has many, many jobs. You make more here because it's more expensive to live here. Transportation can be summed up in one word: Cars. If you don't have one, you're pretty much out of luck. This is the largest metro area in the US (by size), and the public transit is decades behind the times. Best advice is to find a job first, then move into an area close by so that you don't have to commute far. Don't believe all the hype about LA/SoCal. Come and see it for yourself. It's great, but not for everybody. Last earthquake of significance was in 1994. For the people in Northridge and environs (about 30 miles NW of downtown), it was pretty bad. For the rest of us, life went back to normal a few days after the shaking stopped. Mudslides/landslides are usually in burn areas after a fire. Malibu is famous for them, but people still pay big bucks to live there, so there must be a reason, right? Earlier this year there was a big fire in Griffith Park. However, in the most recent fires, none were in Los Angeles. The big ones were in Malibu, Castaic, and out in Riverside and San Diego Counties. The smoke was REALLY bad for a week or so, reminding me of the old stage 3 smog alerts from the 70's. But right now the air is really clear. When I drive in to work, I can see snow-capped mountains over 100 miles away. From the building where I work, I can see the entire San Fernando Valley, from the movie studios in the south (oh look, the writers are picketing!) to Calabasas and Granada Hills. It's expensive here, but I wouldn't trade it for anything!

well Pasadena is a city in L.A. county just east of L.A and west of Glendora and apparently from your question, they may have had a mudslide?
