Lampard is a solid player - but how many goals would he get without Drogba doing all the hard work?

I don't knock Lampard though. One thing for sure, over recent years - he manages to find the back of the net, and that, by itself, speaks volumes.

I wouldn't call him a genius but he has matured into a pretty decent footballer. When he was at West Ham he was a fat pie-eating waste of space. He was crap in his first season at Chelsea as well.
However, it would be unfair to say he goes missing in the big games. Remember his wonder goal at the Nou Camp earlier this season?

Granted, he hasn't exactly set the international scene alight but which current England player has? They all go to pieces as soon as they pull the white shirt on.

That all depends who he plays for.

With England, he is a complete waste. I can't believe a guy like that pushed Paul Scholes out on the left. He is almost pathetic when he plays for England. I would take Gerrard and Hargreaves in the midfield over Lampard/Gerrard anyday.

With Chelsea, he is a good player, a solid midfielder, but not world class. The guy scored more deflected goals then I have ever seen.

He is smart, he has good vision, but how he was up for the World Player of the Year award is beyond me.

It makes me laugh when I hear people say that he is a star. No he is not. He works hard. Fact. But hard working never guarantee the quality of your work. He plays better for Chelsea than England. For the world cup, England played one man less!! It is not just his invisibility but also his presence in the line up affected the performance of the whole team.

I couldn't believe my ears when I heard that he was in the list of candidates for the Best Player Award last year, let alone seeing his name as the 2nd best with the likes of Ronaldinho and E'eto.

I am a Liverpool fan and FL reminds me alot of John Barnes,magnificent for is club but never really did it for England.I think Barnes won about 70 caps,i hope the same mistake isent made with Lampard.

i've got not got an excuse by way of fact i think of he's a genius. he's underrated and probably slightly overpowered via Drogba. Lampard is clever, has the brains. he's an clever chap who could make an outstanding supervisor. He has the knack of calming people down. Prior to the world cup lampard had been englands best player no one remember euro 2004? He is consistantly good for chelsea averaging around 20 goals a season not many strikers manage that ! How is he fat? he was officialy englands fittest player according to tests so think about it? Finaly Gerreard has been rubbish to this season until the last 5-8 games where hes finally started to play well. i would have to plump for the latter. true, he scores a fair few goals but being an attacking midfielder in the style Chelsea play in he should score goals. Also he does hit some crackers, great for MOTD fans, but if you watch the whole game he doesnt half smack some stinkers! Most shots in the world cup and no goals. ells a story doesnt it?!
