No, John K is right. In the first Mario Brothers game (arcade, atari 800, commodore 64) there was just turtles and stuff. No boss.

Starting with SUPER Mario Brothers, for the NES, the bad guy was always Bowser, who also went by the title "King Koopa" - so Koopa and Bowser are one and the same.

In Super Mario Brothers 2, the boss was Wart, a big toad. In Super Mario Land (GameBoy), the boss was an alien named Tatanga.

If you want to count the original Donkey Kong - in which Mario was the protagonist (No Luigi) - then Donkey Kong is the last boss in our list.

The first mario borthers game on the original nentendo
it was the FIRST and its boss is bowser you have to make him fall off the bridge by jumping over him and getting the axe so hed fall in the lava.

Actually in mario brothers II you fight against a giant toad at the end..there is no bowser in that one.

In the original mario brothers game there was no boss, just crabs, flys, turtles, etc.
