Ok. I'm 15 and live in New York (state) is it legal for me to own a gun ? Do I need a license? Do I buy them at my local ammunition store or do i order them by phone or from a website?

No. You have to own at least a .22, but a .38 is recommended. If it's never going to leave your house, then you best be owning a shotgun. Sawed off barrel- better for home protection.
If you shoot an intruder with a BB gun, you'll just piss'm off.

If you goal is protection, you're better off with a baseball bat than a BB gun. It will be more effective and you don't have to ask about the law.
