There are various options to upgrade to vista. First, you could back up all your data on DVDs or Cd's and then format your hard rive so you can install windows vista. Or you could partition your hard rive (this means to use a special software that would give a new Operating System a specific amount of memory...) lets say that you have 80 Gbs in your computer and you partition your disk to have 60 for windows xp and 20 for windows vista... that way you can have both XP and Vista on your computer... I'd recommend this last one to just try out vista... I use vista and I have compatibility issues with hardware... but if you want to only use windows vista on your computer then you should format your hard rive, which would erase your data.

Though the software does show any issues (the ones listed above), there is an issue with Vista running games slower than windows xp. As one has said, you might want to wait for them to fix vista first before getting it and being the beta tester for them (like microsoft has always done-taks 1/2 to a year to fix things).

Vista 'capable' older systems with uncertified GPU and other hardware, won't run Aero.

Go to the Vista website and read the definition of 'capable'.

You won't get 3D on any except 'certified' hardware, built by a Microsoft 'trusted partner'.

That is the definition of a 'monopoly'. Microsoft was convicted of same, and is on probation, extended for two more years.

If you want 3D, now, on that system, then you would love to
try out something on http://distrowatch.com Try the Suse, Ubuntu, or Fedora.

My advice to all, having 2 computer related degrees, is to wait until they have come out with service pk 2 (at least), before you buy Vista....Microsoft will continue to provide service and updates to XP for several years....You never want to buy brand new software until most of the major bugs are worked out!

fist thing you need to know is that vista is 64 bit not 32 like the comp you have and the simple fact that its going to be sum time before you really need to worry about it at all ,, dose your computer run good like it it ,, if so why worry just yet ,,,,?
