Oboe is very difficult to play, and I don't know if I would recommend it to beginner in music. If you have the determination and patience to become good at it, you are almost guaranteed a scholarship at the college of your choice.

Trumpet is fairly easy, but you have to develop the lip muscles, and that can be a little frustrating at first. It is also a very versatile instrument, and if you can play trumpet, it is easy to learn to play other brass instruments.Trumpet is my personal recommendation, but then I have been known to play it occasionally.

As sixstring said, flute is easy to learn, but poses some tricky tone and intonation issues, and is difficult to master. It is also a rather popular instrument among beginning band players, so you may end up with some bad company. (*Imagines the sound of a dozen badly out of tune flute players.* *Shudders*)

Oboe is VERY difficult to play...trumpet is somewhat easier but requires learning the embouchure (lip placement) which can be tricky...flute is fairly simple to learn but very hard to master. My choice of the 3 would be flute.

If you can play it well and you like Jazz, Trumpet is the best. Great sound (if loud) and can really make a song something else which few instruments can do.
