Prisma pencils are definitely known for their blending capabilities. I have never used a clear pencil with them though. I always used the regular super tight wrapped paper things that they sell in the same section.

I think it depends on what you are doing with them. If you are working professionally and you need very high end results, then yes. If you are just drawing as a hobby and you are happy with your coloring already, then I wouldn't bother. They can be a pain to sharpen and work with unless you get the prisma brand sharpener. That thing has made my life so much easier, haha. All in all they are fun to work with because they are so soft and you can get richer colors without pressing down so hard like with Crayola. But of course keep in mind the tool does not make the artist.

Do you have a blender pencil? This a clear pencil that will help if you want mix your hues. When you are using the pencils, I recommend you start coloring lightly. Use dark graphite pencils, (2b - 4b), a lot when you wanna darken something. Never use your black color pencil.
