I know this is long but please read! Ok, so I recently tried out for our school's play, Peter Pan and I am stuck with the absolute SUCKIEST part you could ever have. I'm the stupid crocodile. Now the thing is, my friend is too, and we're in one of those 2 person costumes where one person is the head and one is the butt. What really p i s s e s me off is that I signed up to be on the cast, which by that I ment wearing cool outfits and putting on all that stage makeup and saying lines and being on stage and having fun and stuff, and I'm stuck with a dumb part where my face isn't gunna be seen. Also, I'm only on stage 3 times in the whole play, and all I do is walk across stage. But the biggest thing that makes me mad is that I have to stay after school 2 months straight for a part that only takes me a day to memorize! I want to quit sooooo bad but the director is one of my teachers who knows me well, and I don't have the heart to quit! What do I tell the director? What do I do?

I would stay with it and try to have fun with it. You have to get used to small parts, or else you'll quit theatre before you are able to get a big part. If you're used to big parts, sorry, but have fun with your part and just use the time to relax. Any experience helps. I know it's annoying, especially when new comers get big parts and you don't (my sister has gotten the part she wanted in EVERY show she did, however I got small parts and LOVED them). Play your character up as much as you can (sorry, I know it's hard with that part) and enjoy the backstage fun and cast parties. If I would have quit after my first small part then I would never have gotten into theatre. Just have fun and maybe you'll end up an understudy and the lead will break her leg.

First of all, there are no small parts only small actors. If you really loved acting you would appreciate even being in the play. How many people auditioned and didn't get a part. If you don't want it I'm sure there are a few people out there that would be willing to do it. but if you quit do it soon, don't wait until to close to the opening otherwise you would just ruin it and embarass yourself. Second. have a good time, it's a high school play, they are all crap anyway. You get to spend time with your friends, it will be funny story to tell later on in life. Quit whining, it's an extra curricular activity, if you don't want to do it don't ! But you'll miss, the rehearsals, the fittings, the cast parties, the backstage fun while you're not on stage, the run of the show where everyone will bond and have fond memories to look back on next year and they will all be reminiscing you will be wishing you would have appreciated your time with it and had fun. Stop being so selfish, how many other people get to play the part in the show that the play revolves around, just because you don't have a lot of stage time doesn't mean your character isn't involved in the story, think of it from the audiences point of view.

You suck it up, play the role, and for heaven's sake, keep your bitterness to yourself, or else there's a good chance that you'll poison the atmosphere in rehearsals.
In the future, if there are certain roles you are unwilling to accept, it is YOUR responsibility to communicate that to the director at the time of your audition.
I would also suggest that you have a chat with whoever directed THIS show; you should ask them what it was about your audition that led to your being cast in a small role, and what you can do to improve for next time.
The fact that you "want to quit sooooo bad" tells me that, at this point in your development, this process is all about YOU, and not about the quality of the PLAY you're in. Too bad. I hope you grow out of it.

Ask the director if you can be in other scenes. It's silly for you to JUST be the croc. I'm sure they need lots of ensemble people.
Remember there are no small parts, only small actors.
The croc is a necessary character for the story.

Honestly, this is how you pay your dues. Demonstrate that you are a hard worker and have a good attitude. Think of this as a long term audition for your next role in theatre. The more professional you are, the more likely it is that you'll get something better next time.

you're unlikely to opt to take heed to this: you acquire the area that the director needed you to have. it particularly is purely the way it is. positioned your Ego aside and do the area to your terrific capacity. The teach desires you. you does no longer be solid in case you have been expendable. Or supply up the teach. stroll away. The teach has no place for green with envy actors. you're no longer the terrific choose of your skills and facility in a particular function. Do it in case you like it, or do no longer waste your fellow performers' time. this is not approximately you. it is concerning the teach.

Yes, it sucks to be given a bit part, but if you ever want to get a better part in a different play, you'll have to stick it through. Directors don't just look for talent, they also look for experience. So stick through it, you'll end up regretting it if you don't.
